Group Facilitation Project Example Jan 2020

  • Consideration for the mental well-being of workers during times of crisis, and the importance of prioritising and protecting their mental health, is essential when addressing the long-term risks of stress, burnout, depression, trauma, and other mental health challenges amongst professionals.  In this challenging recovery phase of the pandemic, the needs of workers cannot be overlooked if we are to recover, heal and begin to move forward.

    Prior to the pandemic, threats to mental health ran deep within Irish communities and were far reaching in both rural and urban areas alike.  Sadly, the pandemic has added an additional layer to this, affecting thousands of individuals who have been traumatised by the sudden death of a loved one that they could not visit in hospital, during national and regional lockdowns, those left vulnerable to substance use or relapse, long periods of isolation and loneliness, and the loss of cathartic rituals when honouring someone’s death – workers have bore witness to much of this trauma over the past two years.

  • Over the course of a 4–6-week programme Glisten will consider potential approaches with workers for overcoming these challenges to their mental wellbeing, by exploring the value of practicing self-care strategies in and out of the workplace, and organisational measures to help protect and support the mental health and wellbeing of their workforce.

    * Through a series of reflective workshops Glisten will discuss the mental health impacts on professionals during times of crisis and other challenging working conditions (against a backdrop of the current COVID-19 pandemic).

    * Providing a brief overview of the elevated risk of stress, burnout, and some of the mental health challenges experienced among workers.

    * Introduce approaches for protecting and promoting the mental health of workers through self-care and other evidence-based interventions.

  • * Week 1 ‘Stress, Burnout, and Mental Health Challenges Among Workers’

    * Week 2 ‘Ethical Dilemmas and Moral Injury’

    * Week 3 ‘Vicarious Traumatisation’

    * Week 4 ‘Stigma Amongst Workers’

    * Week 5 ‘A Intervention: The Importance of Practicing Self-Care’

    * Week 6 ‘Introducing the Recovery Phase’
